Despereaux, a tiny mouse with large ears, loves the beautiful princess.  When his family catches him speaking to her, he is banished to the dungeon.  The dungeon is where the rats live; however, Chiaroscuro, the rat, hates the darkness and will do all he can to be in the light.  Miggery Sow, a servant girl, has experienced a very unfortunate life and dreams of one day becoming a princess.  These three characters’ stories will soon intertwine to create a very exciting turn of events.

This book would be great for young readers who enjoy fairy tales or fantasy books. It moves at a quick pace and has an exciting plot with descriptive characters.
