Miri lives in a small town in the mountains where the main source of income for the village is the quarry. Her family and the families of the village are poor and must scrape by with the meager income they receive from the lowlander merchants. Things change however when all the eligible young girls of the village are sent to an academy where they will learn to become a princess. The one chosen by the Prince to be his bride will someday become Queen. Things are hard at the academy and there are girls there who would do anything to become the next princess of the kingdom. Miri must learn to survive not only her competition, but also the threat to the academy when evil comes to their door.

Anyone who loves intrigue, adventure and a story of the underdog will like this book.
