This is the story of a Jewish girl living in Vienna during the Nazi Occupation of 1938. Julie has lived a privileged life in Vienna because her dad is a famous doctor. Things change though when Germany invades and takes over Julie’s country and way of life. Julie and her family are persecuted for being Jewish and things go from bad to worse as World War II begins in Europe. Julie is swept away to safety in America where her Aunt, a stage actress, takes her in and gives her a fairy tale life that starts in the glimmering lights of the stage.

This book is good for students who would like a first-hand account of a girl facing the terrors of war and how life was like during those terrifying days of World War II. It is both heartbreaking and hopeful to read.
