The three main characters, Noah, Lily, and Simon have been friends forever, the trio notorious for skipping class and smoking. As they begin to transition into high school, everything that is familiar begins to change and their once strong bond of a friendship begins to unravel. Each main character is dealing with their own unique world of heartache. As they attempt to escape the treachery and pain these problems inevitably create, their worlds get even smaller and more unmanageable. Falling for one another, becoming trapped in a love triangle, which ultimately leads them to all standing alone.

This book would eb good for 8th grade students transitioning into high school, probably not any ages younger than that unless they are mature. This book is very descriptive and the characters are very likable, many could relate.
