Annemarie and Ellen are best friends living in Copenhagen during the time of the Holocaust. When Nazis take over their city, Annemarie risks her life to save her best friend, Ellen, by ripping off her Star of David necklace and telling the soldiers that Ellen is her sister. As Ellen’s parents are taken into hiding by a family friend, Ellen moves in with Annemarie’s family. The family endures harassment from soldiers as they try to get Ellen and her family to safety.

I think that many young girls would love this book. It is also educational…a good read during history class studies of the Holocaust.
