Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern were abandoned by their ʺmotherʺ and left with their father and Big Ma.  After seven years of not knowing anything of why their mother left them, their dad decides to send these three to Cecile in Oakland, California in the summer of 1968.  The girls then experience not only how different their life is in California compared to Brooklyn especially with The Black Panthers running around.  The girls just want to be loved and accepted by their mother without making her upset.

This book is great for readers interested The Civil Rights Movement and the various social groups emerging out to crate social change.  This book can also reach out to those who have experienced parent abandonment or like to read historical fiction.
