Set in the 1970’s, A white students attends an all black school right after segregation is outlawed. When he arrives at his new school, the other kids make fun of him because he is white and resembles Jesus. Frannie is drawn to Jesus boy when she finds out he knows sign language. Frannie has a deaf brother and knows what it is like to be discriminated against. Jesus boy makes students question themselves and their faith after they find out he is just a boy and not Jesus.

I would recommend this book to students who know what it is like to be an outsider or those who know someone with a disability. I would also recommend this book to anyone who has ever had hope or believed in something.
