The book is about Harry Potter and his adventures as he is learning to become a wizard at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The book begins with him leaving his ʺmuggleʺ aunt and uncle’s home after he inadvertently commits magic outside of the school, which is illegal for young wizards to do. He is able to attend school but is quickly made aware of a murderous mad man named Sirius Black has escaped Azkaban, a prison for wizards that are guarded by dementors. While in school, everyone is on full alarm because Sirius Black tries to break into the school, to kill Harry and to complete the Dark Lord’s commands to kill the entire Potter family. Little do they know, Sirius is Harry’s godfather and is trying to kill them man that betrayed Harry’s parents, Peter Pettigrew, who has taken the form of a rat that lives with Harry’s best friend Ron.

I think that advanced middle school aged students could read and enjoy this book. I asked my ELs and none of them have read it, and in my opinion would be far to over their heads for them to enjoy.
