Maria misses her small little Isla, when she moves to New York with her father. Maria misses the sunshine, the warm weather, her native Spanish, but most of all her mother. After her father and mother’s disputes about where to live and where to get the best education, she picks to live with her father to better her education. Maria tries to find herself among new versions of Spanish and English, and Puerto Ricans from the island and the ones from New York.

I would recommend this book for those who have had to make big moves without one of their parents and those who have had to encounter language barriers. This book is great for those who know what it’s like to be homesick from your friends and family.
