Sophomores Lorraine and John pull an innocent prank on an old, lonely man in their town which ends up turning into an unusual friendship. Their high school friends start to question their interest in this old man, but Lorraine and John have a hard time explaining this friendship which has led to their enlightened view on life. When the old man dies, Lorraine and John tell the crazy, interesting, and sad story of the Pigman.

This is an awesome book for young people because it shows how alienated they can be from things going on in their immediate world, and how young people can learn from from their elders. The humorous twist makes the book fun to read for all ages.
