Rapunzel has always lived with her mother, Mother Gothel, who has magical growing power and is preventing anyone else from growing anything on the land. When one day she recognizes a woman slaving away in the mine as Rapunzel’s real mother, Mother Gothel locks Rapunzel in a tree. She escapes using her extremely long hair like a lasso, and vows to go and free her mother. She meets Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk, about whom the sequel is written), and together they travel back to rescue her mother and help out many others along the way.

If you love fairytales, but sometimes wish the female characters could be more awesome, this book is full of cool fight scenes with Rapunzel’s hair. Also, fans of the Wild West will like the use of that setting.

Razo returns in this sequel to Goose Girl and Enna Burning. Although small for his age, Razo is chosen as one of the elite Bayern soldiers to accompany their ambassador to the Tiran capitol in an effort by the Bayerns to bring peace between the two nations. Once there, Razo befriends numerous people, rich and poor alike, including the beautiful Lady Dasha. Things take a turn for the worse however when people begin to be mysteriously murdered by fire, and everyone begins to blame the deaths on Enna. Razo must use his skills as a spy to uncover the truth behind the murders and not only save his friend from being wrongly accused but also save the peace between Bayern and Tiran.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has finished the first two books of the series, Goose Girl and Enna Burning. The characters from the first two books come back for more action in this mystery/fantasy world of Bayern.

Her new-found happiness does not last long though, the lady-in-waiting is looking for the former princess and wants her to disappear for good…

Everyone should read this book whether you are young or old. It is fantastically written and the story is a lovely remake of the old brothers Grimm story.
