Why does the seagull fly over the sea? If he flew over the bay, he's be a "bay-gull"!

Jonathan Livingston is a seagull. However ordinary, he is outshining among his flock. As the book says, “Most gulls don’t bother to learn more than the simplest facts of flight–how to get from shore to food and back again.” Jonathan is bird who wants to go beyond the limits, a bird who wants more out of his life.

This book is a great allegory, which students can quickly read.  Many parallels can be drawn from the story and used as post-reading discussion.
