A fairytale story about the TRUTH of Hansel and Gretel. It shares about their adventures and how they come across evil creatures. It also talks about how “children are the future.”

I think who ever likes fairytale stories and horror/gruesome stories, put together, would really enjoy reading this book. I personally enjoy the author’s side notes warning younger children not to read this book, (too funny). It also has a good moral ending to the story!

Book 2 of 2

Benson Fisher escaped from Maxfield Academy’s deadly rules and brutal gangs. He thought that the worst was over. But now Benson is trapped in a different kind of prison—a town filled with familiar faces. Classmates from Maxfield who Benson had seen die. Friends he was afraid he had killed.

They are all pawns in the school’s twisted experiment, held captive and controlled by an unseen force. And while Benson struggles to figure out who, if anyone, can be trusted, he discovers that Maxfield Academy’s plans are darker than anything he imagined—and they may be impossible to stop.

Students who like sci-fi and dystopian novels will enjoy Feedback (definitely read Variant first!). It’s definitely action-packed, and will keep you guessing– with a little romance thrown in too.

Benson Fisher thought that a scholarship to Maxfield Academy would be the ticket out of his dead-end life. He was wrong. Now he’s trapped in a school that’s surrounded by a razor-wire fence, where video cameras monitor his every move—and where breaking the rules equals death. All Benson wants is to find a way out. But when he stumbles upon the real secret the school has been hiding, he realizes that escape may be impossible.

Although it’s not a dystopian novel, readers who love those types of books will enjoy this one. It’s suspenseful and very surprising!

Alice Robie’s father has been murdered, and the police have an e-mail message in which Alice confesses to the crime.  When her own mother suspects her, Alice has no choice but to flee in the hope of proving her innocence.

If you like suspense, this is a great pick! Caroline B. Cooney is such a great author, but this one is a throwback– make sure you read it around someone born before 2000 in case you run into any questions, like “what is a pay phone?”
